Rude.
Really?!?!?! Their love and care for pets on extend to those conventional ones. In the UK, the rat is a very common pet and an up and coming pet here in the U.S.
My fiance and I have scheduled an appointment and decided to pay Petsmart to remove her stitches, although we have already paid Van Alstine. It was a horrible experience that nobody should ever be subjected to.
I just called in and asked if they saw small rodents and after I told the lady my little guy is a rat she laughed out loud and said no mam and hung up.
I love Dr Alstine. Yes his office isn't very clean but he genuinely cares for your pet. He has reasonable prices so I can actually afford to take my dogs whenever I need to. I used to use a different vet and I never left without spending at least 200 bucks. When I took one of my dogs for puppy shots at this place it was 352 dollars! When I got my new fur baby, i took him to Dr Alstine and not only was he a hell of a lot cheaper for the same shots (under 100 bucks) he told me some things to help at home with ordinary household ingredients for my dogs skin problem that has changed my dog completely. He no longer suffers from horrible skin rashes and the dogs both love him. I do wish his office was cleaner and he had some more modern tools to use but he is the best vet I have ever had, Truly compassionate.
I believe the doctor to be the best vet we have ever went to. He has kept Tippy alive and has done an outstanding job. We suggest that you give him a try.
I brought my dog in to have a lump on her leg removed on 5/14/15. He didn't have an assistant, and asked my fiance to hold his hands under her belly, because he was going to give her an anesthetic and warned us that she would drop to the floor. While myself on the other hand, was told by Van Alstine to cover my dog's eyes so she wouldn't bark, because it "hurt his ears." Anyway, he gave her the anesthetic and she completely went limp, (she looked DEAD) and he hurried us out the door so he could perform surgery. He called us an hour and 15 minutes later and told us to hurry and get back because she was "waking up really fast." When we got there, I looked for her incision and quickly realized Van Alstine had her laying on the side she just had surgery on. Then as we went to comfort/pet her, I asked why there was a mop next to her butt, and his response was, "Oh, she's been urinating all over herself." He then rushed us out the door, and my fiance and I comforted her in the back seat, because she still couldn't lift her head, move her legs- nothing but her eyes moved at this point. After about 15 minutes, Van Alstine approached our truck and asked for a cigarette. When we told him no, he said we needed to move our truck, "because he had people coming." (His parking lot was completely empty besides his car and our truck. And then he left, we left shortly after.
I do love Van Alstine but can understand some of the negative reviews. His office is a mess and he seems unorganized. The office is pretty filthy (and i am being nice) and I am not sure i would ever have him do a surgery on my dogs b/c of this. On the other hand he loves what he does and is very caring. He doesn't charge much, is very knowledgeable and loves loves animals. He is a tree loving hippy for sure with a heart of gold. I will continue to takes my dogs there for shots and when they are sick.
